Bringing God Home : A Traveler's Guide
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (May, 2002)
Average review score:

A Moving and Personal Exploration of God and LifeBringing God Home is a moving and personal exploration of God, of life, and of our many nomadic journeys to the divine. Forrest Church is a longtime Unitarian minister. He brings his many years of ministry to bear on his search for the divine and his search for himself. In between meditations on theology, he digs deep into his own experience. At the beginning, as he recounts his deepening dalliances with alcohol, he finds himself lost on his path toward God. Finding his way home again is what makes this book well worth the read.
But this is not entirely a tale of "sin and redemption." It may leave you feeling restored, but it won't leave you with a treasure-trove of easy answers. Church sees the divine as one light, but we see that light shining through many windows. Underneath all that divides us is the source that brings us together.
His writing is accessible, thoughtful, and patient. There are moments of light-hearted wit and moments of page-turning tension. There are so many entry points to this book. You can flip open to any page and find yourself carried along the journey from home and back again.

Broadcast News Handbook: Writing, Reporting, and Producing
Published in Spiral-bound by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (12 July, 2000)
Average review score:

great textThis handbook is a wonderful reference for broadcast writing and offers good general tips as well. The authors bring personal experiences to the book, and though I read this for a college journalism course, it was an enjoyable read and I intend to keep it on hand as I begin my uphill climb in the TV news world.

Call & Response: Poems
Published in Paperback by Alice James Books (October, 1995)
Average review score:

Powerful, always intelligent poemsHamer has a great ear for the sounds of his southern home town, and writes powerfully about family, slavery, and love. But the most striking aspect of these poems is the thinking that is going on behind them, and the open spaces he leaves for us to fill with our own feeling. Robert Hass wrote a very positive review in the Washington Post when this book first came out.

The handbook for starting a mediation practiceThis is "the" handbook for all mediators wishing to either start or re-vamp a mediation practice. It covers from A-Z everything you need to know about both the practice and office setup. I've taken a 40-hour mediation training with Mr. Mosten, and he's one of the most talented and knowledgeable professionals in practice today. A must-read.

Computer Tales of Fact and Fantasy: Or How We Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Computer
Published in Paperback by Ageless Pr (1992)
Average review score:

A great compendium of computer storiesI picked up a copy of "Computer Tales of Fact and Fantasy" recently. It is a wonderful compemdium of computer stories; some of which are humorous, some informative, and yet others are first rate short stories. Being somewhat of a historian, I was fascinated by the story of Babbage's "Analytical Engine", developed in London back in 1837 during the industrial revolution. This is now considered to be the forerunner of today's P.C. This book is a great read for computer users of any ability.

Dreams and Swords
Published in Paperback by Naiad Pr (August, 1988)
Average review score:

Oh Captain, My CaptainThis collection of short stories is a must read for one reason: the central novella, "Oh Captain My Captain." I liked the other stories, but this story is simply delicious. A young startrooper signs on for a deep space voyage with the mysterious Captain Drake, who has...needs. The needs are fulfilled in Zero G and just about every other place on the ship...except in the Captain's quarters where the secret to Drake's nature is hidden. I think this may be Katherine Forrest's most erotic writing.
